About Us

Berkeley Crossroads Baptist Church sprung from Berkeley Chinese Baptist Church, whose roots go all the way back to 1953, serving the North Berkeley area. Berkeley Crossroads is affiliated with the California Southern Baptist Convention and the Bridges Bay Area Association. Our church is open to all ethnicities and all ages. We also strive to learn and to teach from God's Word as exhaustively as we can.

We seek to become a Christ-centered, Spirit-led and loving family of God, by…

  • Gathering for worship and prayer faithfully (Hebrews 10: 24 – 25)
  • Growing, learning, equipping and applying God's Word prayerfully (John 15: 7)
  • Going, serving and supporting others joyfully (Ephesians 2: 8 – 10; Matthew 28: 18 – 20)
  • Giving of our time, talents and treasures generously (1 John 2: 3-5; Proverbs 3: 9; 2 Corinthians 9: 6-7)

Sunday Service

What to Expect

What should I wear?

Expect people to be dressed semi-casual to business-casual. Berkeley Crossroads has no dress code outlined, but all we ask is that modesty be kept in mind.

What goes on during service?

We normally begin by greeting each other and then reciting some Scripture to help focus us, followed by a brief period of meditation and silent prayer. We then sing 3-4 songs, usually a mix of contemporary worship songs as well as traditional hymns. Following that, we have a Scripture reading and then a sermon based on that passage, which runs about 35 minutes. We then respond to the message in three ways: going to the altar to give our tithes and offerings, going up for prayer, and singing a closing song. If it is a first Sunday of the month, we observe the sacrament of the Lord's Supper. At the end, we have a benediction followed by another time of meditation and silent prayer.

What goes on during the Lord's Supper?

The Lord's Supper is a practice which memorializes the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, which can be described in 1 Corinthians 11:23-26. During the Lord's Supper, we take bread (wafers) and wine (grape juice) together when instructed, and reflect upon Jesus's sacrifice on our behalf. It is open to anyone who believes in the gospel and has professed their faith in Christ. For those who have not, we kindly ask that you only observe. We do hope that during this time you can take time to reflect with us on Jesus Christ's payment for our sins on the cross, and that you, too, would experience the overwhelming love of God!

Is there child care?

We do not have regularly scheduled child care available, but it can be arranged if you notify us a few days in advance. However, we do have Sunday School available for elementary school ages all the way to high school ages. We also encourage you to bring your children to attend service with you together, no matter how young! We also have rooms behind the sanctuary for nursing mothers, or as a space parents may take their children if they need to calm them down.
